changes on flashmeter

Hi again. I hace almost built the flashmeter, but I have found a couple of problems I hope you can help me with.
1. I bought a different DC-DC step up module. MIne is ebay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271734570473?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT
the center pin is ground, right (as seen in the picture) the 3V input and left the 5V output. May I connect it like that in the PCB? I have not the circuit drawing, so I don't know if right pin (looking from the BT module, for example) is 3V or 5V...

2. The box I have found here in Spain is a bit different and I don't see how to put the 2x1.5 batteries inside... I have though to use a 3V battery (not the small-button ones, but the CR123A). In this case there would be more that enough space. That is possible, right?

Thanks again for your help.
Juan

Re: changes on flashmeter

Hi,
for the DC-DC see this post (left is INPUT) : viewtopic.php?f=38&t=807

see picture :

For the battery, no problem,
you can use any 3 Volt battery or two 1.5 Volt battery.
The DC-DC convert low volt to 5 Volt (the minium to work is in the datasheet of your DC-DC converter (1.8 - 2 Volt).

Re: changes on flashmeter

Hello.
Thanks.
I have removed the pins and soldered others to allow the proper position of the DC-DC converter.
Once I have powered everything, the flashmeter seemed to work fine. I have searched with smartphone, detected "Lightmeter", I have introduced the code "1234" but it seems as if the pairing didn't end up well... The program keeps searching for the flashmeter...
Do you know what might happen? Is "1234" the code?
Thanks
Juan

Re: changes on flashmeter

Hi Zumix,
OK, when you launch the program for the first time, the program found the Bluetooth adapter and say to you the code ?

This is a good news, because by default, the bluetooth module don't have a name and,
the first time that the arduino start, it name this Bluetooth module.
When the Android program start, it search a bluetooth adapter with the name "LightMeter" and if you have a question about the paired code that the dialog is OK.
The paired code is "1234".

Have you shutdown all : Flashmeter and Smartphone and after restart all ?

Could you provide some details for help you ?
All steps and all details.

Have you a computer with Bluetooth ?
In this case, you can use the program for Windows include in the ZIP for test.

On your Smartphone (Flashmeter power off, app android power off), you can remove the Bluetooth devices in the parameters / Bluetooth (in the list of all Bluetooth devices already paired) of your Smartphone for pair it again.

Another information :
when you start Flahsmeter, the Bluetooth LED blink and when you are paired with the Android Application, the LED is red continuously (not blink).

Re: changes on flashmeter

Hello!
I have succesfully paired it and watch it working in a different smartphone, so it is clear the circuit is fine, and there is something in my phone that prevents the pairing to finish... The BT led keeps blinking all the time, and the app does not find it...
So, in a HTC One M9 does not work, but in a Samsung S3 works fine... I think the BT version of HTC (and the Android version too) are higher. Maybe there is some incompatibility. I have tried to reset everything, but no way. It ask me for the code, and once introduced the phone says "last synchronization hh:mm "and updates the time(so far, so good), but the Bluetooth led on the meter does not stop blinking and the software keeps searching...
Good night

Re: changes on flashmeter

Another finding in the smartphone where the program doesn't work. It keeps my BT on all the time. When I exit the application it says the BT will be off, and switches it off, but aftwer a few seconds it is turned on again... I have had to uninstall it to avoid BT on all the time. Maybe this might help to make the program fully compatible with HTC One M9 (Android 6)
Have a nice day

Re: changes on flashmeter

Hi,

I am not sur that the problem is in the code of android program for somes reasons :
- I use the standard Android API for open Bluetooth, search Bluetooth device, connect device
- This is the first phone who have a problem.
- I think (and it is possible) that is an incompatibility between the HTC phone and the HC-06 BT module.

The BT discovery work and your HC-06 is found but it is the connection to it with the Android API : createRfcommSocketToServiceRecord(UUID.fromString("00001101-0000-1000-8000-00805F9B34FB")) who not work,
and this API is a standard for Android BT Development and this API is not deprecated.
And as long as the module HC-06 is not connected, there is no action on the Arduino and no action in the Android program.

For the shutdown BT when you quit the APP and after the BT is power on,
I think that it is because the Bluetooth on your phone try to connect to the HC-06 and when the APP shutdown your phone don't have finish and restart BT for continu the discovery and/or trying to connect.

If you have the possiblity to test the Flashmeter on another phone in Android 6 for exclude the Android OS (because I haven't the opportunity to test it on Android 6) ...

ThierryD.

Re: changes on flashmeter

Hi,

I have tested the flashmeter on a Samsung J3 2016 (Android 5.1.1) and Bluetooth 4.1
I suppose a connexion too long with smartphone who have Bluetooth 4.1

When i test it.
Sometimes, the flashmeter is connected quickly,
other times it takes 30 seconds at 1 minutes to connect.

If you have this problem, It is a problem between the Bluetooth module HC-06 and the bluetooth 4.1 of smartphone.

Could you test on your smartphone by waiting a long time ?

ThierryD.
